Blanchard Kennel’s L’s Luv It tops all qualifiers after three rounds of the $100,000 Mountaineer Classic at Wheeling Island.

The sprinter has accumulated 37 points heading into Sunday afternoon’s semifinal round when the field will be cut to 24 greyhounds. The championship final is set for Saturday afternoon, Oct. 24.

Next in line are Xtrem Hess Racing Kennel’s AD Black Falcon with 35 points; Abrahamson Kennel’s Atascocita Birma with 33 points; Lester Raines Kennel’s Craigie Pirate and Patriot/Taplin Kennel’s TNT Free Falling with 32 points each; and Jacob’s Racing Kennel’s Time Killer and AB Bad Influence with 30 points each.

Posting victories in Wednesday afternoon’s third round were L’s Luv It (Blanchard), Atascocita Birma (Abrahamson), AB Bad Influence (Jacobs Racing), C’'s Penny Shoe (Abrahamson), Racine (Charter) and CTW Givin It All (Abrahamson).

I was introduced to greyhound racing by a friend in the late 1970s at Wheeling Downs and fell in love with the sport and the athletes immediately. Throughout the years, I have developed a deep passion for racing. In the mid 1990s, I started writing a weekly greyhound column and shortly thereafter became a writer for The Greyhound Review.

I have enjoyed watching and writing about these wonderful competitors, including All-Americans DD's Nelson, Kiowa Sweet Trey, Gene's Champion, WW Apple Jax, Greys Royalcrown, Nimby TP Jan, Hi Noon Hero, Gable Sour Cream, KB's Ruckus and Cry Case.
