KW Malibu Run (Plum Creek – Oxbow Trow Kennel), a 73-pounder born Jan. 5, 2016 out of Flying Hydrogen – Bs Back In Black, was third in the early rush to the first turn and grabbed the lead entering the back stretch. He was pushed by Rf Paco (Superior) through the backstretch but managed to keep a length’s lead.
“This was a great race,” said Plum Creek trainer Vera Rasnake. “We were nervous in the backstretch, but he can go as fast as he wants too.”
Entering the homestretch KW Malibu Run kept his length’s lead. It was Rf Paco who stepped back a stride or so. However Superior Tailor (Superior) made a late rush on the outside to make the final strides a battle again.
KW Malibut Run held firm to win by a half-length in a time of 31.23 seconds for the 5/16-mile course.
“At the start of the INC,” said Rasnake, “we thought he could go as far as anyone.
“Now we will lake him down to Naples, where he ran last year and see how he can do.”
