DUBUQUE, Iowa – There were four first round races in the $30,000 Dubuque Classic Stakes at the Iowa Greyhound Park on Friday, August 12, and four winners to get the stakes series underway.

The first of the four races produced the biggest eye opener. O Ya Curly Sue (Wayne R Ward Kennel) put on a dominating performance. Sue, 15-7-2-4, a 58-pounder, born June 26, 2014 out of Defrim Bale-O Ya Norma, went box to wire from the two box to win by 10 lengths in a time of 38.26 seconds over the 2,040-foot Dubuque Course. The time was .50 of a second faster than any winner of the other three races.

Boc’s One N Only (Boeckenstedt), 8-1-4-1, picked up the second place points.
In the second of the races Xkt Shelly Turin (Xtrem Hess Racing) made a big charge in the homestretch, coming from third with a wide swing to win by two lengths in a time of 39.01. The win move Turin to 14-4-2-2.

Roc A By Jackel (Jackson), 18-4-1-4, settled for second.

Superior Yesy (Superior), 17-7-3-1, overtook O Ya Chatter Box (Wayne R. Ward), 6-0-2-2, late in the homestretch to take the third of the opening races. Yesy won by two lengths in a time of 38.76. Chatter Box was left in second place.

To round out the first round Dnt Finbarclancy (T And T) spotted Aj’s Callie a big early lead then came roaring back to take the lead in the homestretch and go out to win by four lengths. Finbarclancy, 13-5-6-1, who had to come from fourth place, was timed in 38.87 seconds.

Aj’s Callie (Jackson), 18-4-5-3, settled for second.
The greyhounds return to the track for the second round on Friday, August, 19.
