Husker Magic, the All-America captain and Rural Rube winner for 2015, became the industry’s 51st greyhound to win 100 career races on Monday with a one-length victory at Derby Lane in St. Petersburg, Fla. The two-time stakes winner is owned by the I Mark Kennels brand of Derby Lane kennel owner Jim Abernathy, Arthur Kaufman of Sarasota, Fla., and Terry Haber of Grapevine, Ark.. Trained by Claudio Lopez, Husker Magic surged to the lead shortly after leaving the No. 8 box and held on to win the Grade A 550-yard sprint in 30.50 seconds. She is the first dog to run at Derby Lane to get 100 wins – all but one coming in St. Petersburg.

“A win’s a win,’’ said Jim Abernathy, who operates the kennel with wife Kayruth Abernathy.  “We’ll take them any way we can get them. You don’t think about (100 lifetime wins) that often. We’ve very proud of her.’’

Husker Magic, a 49-month-old female out of a litter by Rhythmless and Casino Zada, reached the milestone in her 160th start. Derby Lane presented Husker Magic’s connections with a blanket commemorating her 100th win after the race.
