Jim Gartland

Aug 8, 2022

105 race winner, Husker Magic, was the lone nominee to receive enough votes for induction into the 2022 class of the Greyhound Hall of Fame.

Husker Magic was whelped April 23, 2012, and is owned by Terry & Lisa Haber, Jim & Kayruth Abernathy and Arthur Kaufman. She was whelped and raised on Terry & Lisa Haber's farm in Florida. She is out of Rhythmless and Casino Zada and is one of only six greyhounds in history to be named All American three times! She is the all time leading race winner at Derby Lane and accounted for 105 wins in her career.

Magic broke in at Derby Lane in September of 2013 and went from Maiden to A in just six starts. She would never drop out of top grade competition over the next two and a half years winning a grade A event in her final start on June 21, 2016. She finished in the money 143 times in 163 lifetime starts. She made the finals of eleven stake races winning three and finishing 2nd four times.

She was an All American in 2014, 2015 and 2016. In 2015 she was named Captain of the Team and was honored with the Rural Rube award as well. She captured the 2015 Derby Lane Sprint Classic and the BetAmerica 550 at Daytona Beach while winning 40 races for the year including eleven in a row from April 8 through May 22.

Husker Magic was such a star at Derby Lane they named a stake race after her. She was extremely popular with the fans, a real crowd pleaser and a great ambassador for the sport.

These days, Magic is enjoying retirement at the home of Daniel Robb in Ohio.

Congratulations to Terry, Lisa, Jim, Kayruth, Arthur and everyone involved with Husker Magic on this great honor!
