Steve Sarras Kennel’s CET Dirty Gurly and A Ray Kennel’s Mac’s Zhivago are tied for the top spot in points after two rounds of the $65,000 West Virginia Greyhound Owners and Breeders Association Keystone Stakes at Wheeling Island.

Heading into the Sunday, Nov. 21, semi-finals, both middle distance 3/8 racers have accumulated 25 points with a win and a second in the early rounds.

The stake final is scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 27.

Capsule looks at the second round races follow:

CET Dirty Gurly, an overwhelming favorite in her race, rocketed to an early lead and never looked back in winning by 2 ½ lengths in 38.43. JA’s Moon Man closed in the stretch for second while Mac’s Chapman rounded out the trifecta ticket.

Mac’s Choo, sent to post at 13-1 odds, rushed home from fourth in the stretch to overhaul frontrunners Mac’s Zhivago and RS’s Prime Time at the wire – winning by a nose in 38.18.

I was introduced to greyhound racing by a friend in the late 1970s at Wheeling Downs and fell in love with the sport and the athletes immediately. Throughout the years, I have developed a deep passion for racing. In the mid 1990s, I started writing a weekly greyhound column and shortly thereafter became a writer for The Greyhound Review.
