ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. – The recent hot streak by Watson Racing has produced a meet-tying kennel race at Derby Lane.
After recording 12 victories in the past seven performances, Watson Racing finds itself in a tie for the kennel win lead with three-time champion Everett Racing entering Monday’s card.
Everett Racing and Watson Racing each have 206 victories, and two other operations aren’t far behind in one of the most competitive kennel races in years. Lester Raines, the reigning meet win champion, has 202 victories, and Capabal kennel has 200. Abernathy kennel is fifth in the 14-kennel standings at 185.
Lester Raines had the most productive week with 14 victories, highlighted by a five-win card this past Tuesday. Cal Holland kennel also had a good week with 12 wins.
One of the highlights came on Saturday when Nova kennel Grade A sprinter Deco Colt Gun collected his 50th career victory from 106 starts with a 1-1/2-length win on the 550-yard course. Deco Colt Gun is trained by Missy Kubitz for owner David Hays.
