Eighty of our best middle distance racers are expected to head to post when the $85,000 Razorback Classic Stakes gets underway on Thursday, May 2nd at Southland Park.  The field will compete over the 660 yard course over four qualifying round to determine the elite eight that will make up the championship field later in the month.

Some of the early notable expected to compete in the race include CHIP DAWSON (Ryan Farms) who just finished competing in the River Course Classic Championship where he finished fifth for trainer Tracy McMillin.  Speaking of being freshly coming off facing stakes competition, WW JOHN FLORENCE (Wayne R. Ward, Inc.) fared a little better in the River Course Classic Championship where he finished second to the champion, PCH FAITH IN U.

ARKANS LEO (Darren Henry) was the betting favorite in that River Course Classic before finishing a disappointing fourth but he has late speed for days on end.  He looks to move down about 40 yards in distance which means his early breaking speed will be that much more important if he wants to make back to back stakes race finals.

A relative newcomer to watch will be SUPER C CHILLY (Lester Raines Kennel) who has finished first or second in five of his past six starts on the course and 14 of 19 races on the season.  TMC’S INTHAMONEY (Darren Henry Kennel) was clicking right along in March, winning 4 straight before suffering a minor injury.  After about a month off, he is likely to be ready to return to action on his favorite course.

You can catch all four qualifying rounds of action to be contested on the following schedule:

  • Round 1 – Thursday, May 2
  • Round 2 – Wednesday, May 8
  • Round 3 – Monday, May 13
  • Round 4 – Sunday, May 19
  • Championship/Consolation – Saturday evening, May 25
