Spring Meet pups shine at PBKC

The two leading point-getters in the Dick Andrews Futurity at Palm Beach are scheduled to meet in a semi-final race on Monday. And, with two wins and a second in qualifying heats, are certainly on track to face each other again in the finals.
But it won't be the first time Turbo Porsha and SE's Star Leia have been in a stake race against each other.
Last spring in Abilene, the two females were both in the January Stake (even though Porsha is a February 2010 whelp) for their breeders and nominators: Ed Gardner, Jr., in the case of Porsha, and Steve Ward, in the case of Leia.
SE's Leia (TNT Star Wars-Ozsum Flyby) ran third in the opening round of the stake, then captured the Flite II Consolation Stake (against a field that included Derby Lane stake winner I Am Jak) before selling to Arthur Agganis for $3,500. Turbo Porsha (Turbo Penske-Turbo Wind Burn) ran a close fourth in her first-round race and was scratched from the auction. Months later, she was sold to Norm Rader and Gary Samuels.
Even though the Spring 2011 NGA Meet was one of the smallest in recent memory, it unveiled one of the best crops of auction pups ever--many of which have gone on to compete in a large number of stake races around the country.
