He's My Man, Round 2 on Jan. 7 at PBKC
Defending $50,000 He’s My Man Classic champion Tuff Stuff
West Palm Beach, Fl. - Round two qualifying action for Palm Beach Kennel Club’s $50,000 He’s My Man Classic takes place Saturday afternoon, January 7.
The 63 greyhounds who competed in the first round of qualifying last Wednesday afternoon will return for the second round, facing different Classic entries and all striving to be among the top 32 point earners.
The above mentioned 32 will go on to compete in round three on Wednesday afternoon, January 11, with the top 16 point earners moving on to the Classic semifinals on Sunday afternoon, January 15.
The $50,000 He’s My Man Classic finale will be contested Saturday afternoon, January 21.
Probable round two wagering and fan favorites include:
In Race 2, the overwhelming favorite will be round-one winner #2 Whats Next (Yahoo Omar - Flying Exorcist, Rader Racing Kennel). Along with kennel mate RK’s Conk Gonk, ran the fastest 545-yard Royal Palm Course time of the day, 29.84 seconds.
Race 4 is a tough one to handicap. It features two first-round victors, #1 Jack’s Go Bayou (Lonesome Cry - Leta’s Speedster, Marsella Racing Kennel) and the big closer #4 Hilco Burner (Kiowa Sweet Trey - Larks Bronx, B & B Racing Kennel). Also competing will be the defending $50,000 He’s My Man Classic champion #3 Tuff Stuff (Lonesome Cry - Night Breeze, Rader Racing Kennel) and breaking from his favorite post, stakes veteran #8 JS I Am Legend (B’s O’Grady - Bizzy Babe, Pat Collins / Neola Joe Kennel).
Race 6 features first-round winner and holder of the Royal Palm Course track record, #3 Atascocita Bowl (Dodgem By Design - Atascocita Sally, Suncoast Kennel). Three other entries to keep an eye on, #4 JS Kerry Oki (Dodgem By Design - Soft Melody, Collins / Neola Joe Kennel), #5 Monkeys Uncle (Yahoo Omar - Flying Exorcist, Rader Racing Kennel) and a potential surprise, # 1 Uhaul Muffin (Red Ranger - SE’s Wayout Jan, Tru Palm Kennel).
It appears in Race 8, that first-round winner #2 Be Giving (Dragon Fire - Flying Nenagh, Steve Gilster Kennel) will again be the pacesetter. There are a few Classic entries that have the ability to catch him, but as usual in most races, what happens behind him at the first turn will be the determining factor.
In Race 10, racing fans will be wagering en masse on the Quiniela combination of #5 Alarm Red Nose (Dodgem By Design - PBJ’s Cupid, Rader Racing Kennel) and #7 Atascocita Rylie (Kiowa Sweet Trey - Atascocita Betty, Suncoast Kennel).
In Race 12, round-one winner # 3 RK’s Conk Gonk (Dragon Fire - RK’s Tomb Raider, Rader Racing Kennel) looks to repeat as he is being chased around the oval by the well-positioned #1 Flying Halladay (Kiowa Sweet Trey - First Hand Smoke, Steve Gilster Kennel).
In Race 14, you can’t leave first-round victor #1 Pat C Offkey (Kiowa Sweet Trey - Okie Reba, Collins / Neola Joe Kennel) and round-one runner up #6
Riverview Stevie (Kiowa Sweet Trey - CV’s Mama Mia, Rader Racing Kennel) off your Trifecta tickets.
Race 15 features the Greyhound who many believe will take home the Classic championship, #4 Turbo Razor (Kiowa Sweet Trey - Turbo Wind Blown, Rader Racing Kennel), whose 12-race win streak came to a heartbreaking end, as he succumbed to Hilco Burner at the wire, finishing second by a neck. Another entry to watch, #1 Blazin Spitfire (Dragon Fire - Tin Nee Ann, Marsella Racing Kennel) who put forth a fantastic effort in round one.
The $50,000 He’s My Man Classic is the first event in Palm Beach Kennel Club’s $150,000 “Big 3" Stakes series, which includes the $50,000 James W. Paul 3/8ths Mile Derby (Saturday afternoon, February 25) and the $50,000 Arthur J. Rooney, Sr. St. Patrick’s Invitational (Saturday afternoon, March 17).
The Classic is named for Palm Beach Kennel Club racing legend and the track’s first multimedia sensation He’s My Man and dedicated to the man who raised and trained “Roscoe”, Bill Pappas.
