The second round of the 660-yard challenge was held Wednesday night at Derby Lane. Abernathy’s fleet footed female Ahk Colormegone (Fuzzys Cannon x Fuzzys Cessna) scored another box to wire win becoming the first of two to repeat in the qualifying rounds.
Abernathy kennel’s second entry Magic Finch, who finished fifth, scored enough points advancing to round three. McAllister kennel’s Flying Marvelous (Kiowa Sweet Trey x Flying Midnite) also repeated her last start in box to wire fashion tying Colormegone with the high 32 points. McAllister’s other entry Flying Carne’s seventh place finish in round one and fourth in round two did not give him enough points to advance.
J. E. O’Donnell’s Hallo Sangria (Trent Lee x Kiowa High Hand) took full advantage of the rail post and went box to wire upsetting round one winner Storm Rush. Hallo Sangria was the third female to win in the second round series. O’Donnell’s second entry TMC’s Hero also advanced to the third round. The final heat of the night was an all-male field. Lester Raines USS Billionaire came from behind to win the race putting him in the top ten for the next two rounds. A clean cut with 11 points and above advanced the sweet 16.
