Veteran greyhound owner and former kennel operator Clinton E. “Buzzy” Blair died Wednesday, Oct. 26 in the Denver, CO, area. He was 78.
Mr. Blair was born in 1933 to Greyhound Hall Of Famer Merrill and Thelma Blair. He married Elsie D. Blair in 1954, and shortly afterward moved to Quincy, MA, where he served in the US Army as a member of its Air and National Defense Battery.
After concluding his service in the Army, Buzzy began a long and storied career as a greyhound racing owner and trainer. Among his many accomplishments were numerous stake winners and kennel championships, under the kennel name of Blair Bros. One of the finest greyhounds raced by Buzzy was Denver crowd favorite Cherokee Go, who won the Timberline Stake at Mile High in 1973. Cherokee Go’s littermate--Apache Go (both owned by Ross Lingle)--was an outstanding sprinter under Buzzy’s handling at that time.
Buzzy treasured the many friends he made during his years in greyhound racing.
He is survived by his wife, four children (Robin, Tammy, Gary and David), and six grandchildren (Rachel, Clint, Elizabeth, Zac, Shane and Olivia). He was preceded in death by his brother, Carroll Blair.
Viewing was set for Friday, Oct. 28 from 4-7 p.m., and funeral services were Saturday, Oct. 29 at Olinger Hampden Mortuary & Cemetery in Denver.
