Biehle tops sellers
Ken Biehle’s main-stake winners during the Sprng Meet were (from left) KB’s Marques (held by Herminio Yanez), BI’s Cole (held by Jorge Mares), BI’s Tooters (held by Biehle) and BI’s Oh Cee (held by Dan Iselt). Biehle and Iselt were co-owners of the BI’s pups, which swept the August/September main stakes.
Ken Biehle never met an auction bid he didn't like.
And that's just one thing that makes him so popular with buyers at NGA Auctions.
This past NGA Spring Meet (Apr. 18-23) Biehle sold 39 of 40 pups that walked into the ring, taking home the only pup for which he didn't receive a bid.
In other words, he didn't refuse a single offer in the ring.
That led to Biehle easily being the top seller at the meet, with 39 pups going for $230,250.
Three of those pups were "BI's"—thus owned by both Biehle and partner Dan Iselt. That trio—BI's Tooters, Cole and Ocee (Lonesome Cry-Tipp Gina)—swept all three mains in the August/September stakes and wound up selling for $20,000, $12,500 and $12,000 respectively.
Ken had four other pups of his own sell for more than $10,000: KB's Camden ($19,000), KB's Smokin Jess ($17,500), KB's Marquez ($12,000) and KB's Mr. Fulton ($12,000).
With Biehle leading the way in total sales, the NGA Spring Meet Auction handled $745,550—much more than many expected, in the wake of a smaller Meet field and industry uncertainty. In all, 111 pups sold in the ring for an average of $6,716.66
Brood sold briskly, too, compared to recent meets. Nine of the 12 broods paraded sold for a total of $16,300. Top sale was Ken and Janet Allen's San Tan Nip for $5,000 to Marty Tanner.
Top pup sale in the ring was the Spring Meet's standout star, SE's Tali Aspen, purchased from Steve Ward and Penny Wick by Terry Scott for $35,000. Tali Aspen easily won her main stake, posting the two fastest times of the meet—30-flat on both occasions. The November daughter of Kiowa WW Brother-Time For A Party had three littermates sell handsomely also—SE's Sequoia selling for $23,000 to Australia's Robbie Britton, SE's Tali Willow going to Green Smith for $17,000, and SE's Lakotah purchased by Jim Blanchard for $4,500.
Ward sold another 10 pups in the auction for an additional $39,000. Like Biehle, he never turned down a single bid.
Marty Tanner had an excellent meet, selling all 11 pups he paraded for $84,750. He had five pups sell for five figures each: TK Black Mamba ($23,500), TK Forward Motion ($15,500) TK Mad Money ($13,000), TK Top Flight ($11,500) and TK Hippy Chick ($10,000). Black Mamba (Flying Penske-Cajun Fantasy) won a Flite I Stake in one of the fastest times of the meet (30.11). The $23,500 he brought in the ring was the third highest price during the meet, selling to H. Hal Gill.
Like Biehle and Ward, Tanner did not turn a bid down in the ring.
John Dalton was another top seller, with six pups going for a total of $64,000. His top sale was Kells Danny Boy (Atascocita Leroy-Too Late), going for $26,000 to Green Smith. Danny. Danny Boy won an October main stake in one of the meet's best times, 30.04.
Helen Stout sold two littermates from her "Spice" litter—Switzler Mustard and Switzler Cloves (Coldwater Keelin-Switzler Teatime)—for $18,000 to Lester Raines, and $16,000 to Norm Rader, respectively. Years ago, Rader purchased a pup from Stout in the ring, Switzler Jammin, who went on to earn All-America honors.
Stout sold six pups in all for a total of $49,250.
Other top sellers included Alan Murray and Marcy Strong (three pups for $28,250), John C. Boyd (four pups for $24,750), and Willis Hill (three pups for $20,500).
